WHAT IS THE DV LOTTERY ?

The Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, also known as the Green Card Lottery, is an annual U.S. government program that offers a unique opportunity for individuals to become U.S. permanent residents.

The 2023 DV Lottery program year (DV-2025) is the year when Green Card holders will be able to enter the USA with their new visa. 

ELIGIBILITY

•  Must be a native of a qualifying country, with historically low rates of immigration to the U.S.
•  Must have a high school education, or its equivalent, or 2 years of qualifying work experience 
•  Must possess a valid passport at the time of DV entry

RANDOM SELECTION

The DV Lottery uses a computer-generated random selection process to choose winners. Being selected does not guarantee a green card, but it grants eligibility to apply for one.

SPOUSES & DEPENDENTS

If you are selected, you can include your spouse and unmarried children under 21 years old in your application. They will have the opportunity to receive green cards along with you.

NOTIFICATION

The results of the DV Lottery are typically announced the following year. Applicants can check their status online using a unique confirmation number.

VISA INTERVIEWS

If selected, winners must complete a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate in their home country. During the interview, they will undergo a background check, medical examination, and verification of eligibility.

FEES

While the application is free, there are processing fees associated with obtaining a green card, including visa fees, medical examination costs, and other administrative expenses.

2. LOTTERY DRAW: Applicants will be able to check if they were selected between May 8, 2025 & April 30, 2026.
3. PROCESS: If selected, winners must submit necessary documentation to complete a visa interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in home country
4. ENTRY: Green Card holders who won the green card lottery may enter the United States of America during the year 2026 as a permanent resident.
